About Digitally Nutritious

Who We Are

Digitally Nutritious is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides independent, evidence-based guidance on choosing and using technology, games, and AI tools for neurodivergent kids. Our mission is to give parents, teachers, and clinicians the information they need to get the most out of technology for these kids while keeping the harms in check.

It is the place to go when someone raising, teaching, or treating a neurodivergent child needs to know what an app, game, AI tutor, AI companion, or digital health tool actually does, whether it is likely to help or harm that child, and how to build reasonable habits around it. That resource does not exist yet. Digitally Nutritious is building it.

Why Digitally Nutritious Exists

Roughly 20% of children are neurodivergent and often struggle in traditional learning environments. Yet these same children frequently demonstrate deep focus, motivation, and persistence when engaged with technology—whether through games, apps, creative platforms, or digital tools. Technology is often where they feel most competent and most successful.

But technology also holds the most significant risks for neurodivergent youth:

• excessive engagement
• emotional dysregulation
• social vulnerability
• reliance on technology as a coping mechanism

And now, a new layer has emerged:

The rapid rise of AI tools—homework helpers, creative generators, chat-based companions, and personalized tutors—has introduced enormous potential and new uncertainties. Neurodivergent kids may benefit more from AI’s personalized support, but are also more vulnerable to its risks.

Parents, educators, and clinicians urgently need ND-specific, evidence-based guidance on how to leverage technology—including AI.

Digitally Nutritious fills this gap.

Our Purpose

To improve problem-solving, executive functioning, and social-emotional learning in neurodivergent children by guiding adults in the healthy, targeted use of popular technologies, AI tools, and emerging digital health and neurotechnology tools.

We help families understand when AI is appropriate, how to use it in developmentally and diagnostically sensitive ways, and how to prevent overdependence or misuse.

Who We Serve

We serve neurodivergent youth ages 4–18, including children with:

• ADHD
• Autism Spectrum Disorders
• Learning Disabilities
• Anxiety and mood challenges
• Executive functioning  (EF) weaknesses
• Twice exceptionality (2e)
• Subclinical attentional, organizational, or social-emotional difficulties
• Processing difficulties
• Speech and language disorders
• Behavioral and conduct challenges

Our primary users are the adults who guide them—parents, educators, clinicians, and caregivers—who need clear, trustworthy information on digital tools, including how to evaluate and use AI safely with neurodivergent children.

Our Method

How Digitally Nutritious Helps

We provide practical, actionable guidance on:

• healthy screen time habits
• building a healthy “Play Diet” of physical, social, creative, unstructured, and digital play
• developmental and diagnosis-specific recommendations
• digital health tools and neurotechnologies
• strategies for using tech to build EF, SEL, and problem-solving skills
• how, when, and where AI can benefit neurodivergent kids

Our assessment tools evaluate EF, SEL, processing skills, metacognition, and problem-solving patterns. We then provide personalized “digital prescriptions” tailored to each child’s needs.

These recommendations increasingly include developmentally appropriate AI tools. Digitally Nutritious clarifies when they are supportive, when they become crutches, and how to integrate them into healthy daily routines.

We review:

• popular games and apps
• digital health tools and neurotechnologies
• screen-management and parental controls
• AI tutors, AI homework helpers, creative AI tools, and chat-based AI companions

Our lens is always the same: How does this tool help neurodivergent kids—and how must it be used to truly benefit them?

We offer training for parents, educators, and clinicians on using technology intentionally to strengthen EF and SEL skills—while teaching strategies that prevent overreliance and promote real-world generalization.

This includes guidance on AI tools: how to use them alongside a child, how to scaffold learning, and how to encourage independence rather than avoidance or shortcutting.

We consult with developers to promote ethical, developmentally appropriate, neurodiversity-sensitive digital tools and AI experiences for children.

We also help companies understand how their technologies can better support children with ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities, and related challenges.

Our Approach

Why Digitally Nutritious is Different

Digitally Nutritious is distinct because we:

  • Balance concerns about tech use with methods to make it worthwhile.
  • Integrate play-based learning principles into tech time.
  • Use screen time to promote executive function and SEL skills.
  • Recognize the unique needs of neurodivergent children.
  • Are experts in digital health and neurotechnology knowledge.
  • Provide evidence-based transfer strategies for tech use.
  • Start our work from a real-world generalization framework.
